The PRIME Act is a piece of federal legislation that will give Americans greater freedom to obtain locally produced meat from the farmers they know and trust.
Imagine walking into a neighborhood butcher shop and asking for a specific cut of meat from 100% grassfed cows or pastured pork. Now, imagine that the animal was raised a few miles away, and given a great life from a farmer you know and who loves what they do.
What would the American landscape look like filled with small farms and ranches that provide local food sources for their communities? As part of this landscape, small-scale butchers are available to be liaison between the farm and the customer. And it gives farmers and small, custom slaughterhouses the option to work together to serve their communities. Every day, the butcher serves:
The busy family that wants roasts and brisket for the crock pot, fun taco meats, and ground meat for hamburgers and meat loaf.
The young couple on a keto/carnivore diet that wants mostly steaks with the occasional pork chop or roast.
An elder couple that comes in weekly for their burgers and “date night” steak.
The Jewish family that needs their specialty kosher meats.
The Young family on a budget looking for tough cuts to marinate and slow cook.
In this scenario, everyone gets what they want. It is local and this level of detail is attainable. The butcher wraps the cuts carefully in butcher paper and sends each valued neighbor on their way. Happy, healthy, and knowing they have a safe and secure food source—a closed loop. The farmer knows who their hard work will feed. The butcher knows his or her role in the community. And the community members know that they will get their next meal even if a trucker’s strike creates a massive disruption in the food supply chain.
What happens if this bill becomes law?
Small-scale farmers and ranchers will have greater freedom to sell their meat locally.
Hungry American families will be able to find and access locally raised, affordable meat.
Buyers gain peace of mind in knowing where their food comes from and how it was produced and processed.
Expert butchers will contribute to their communities by opening new facilities that transparently serve their customers.
Local ecosystems heal as grassfed beef once again becomes a staple in our households.
Humanely raised and harvested animals become the norm rather than CAFO and foreign meat taking all the space.
Americans create food resilience in their own communities.
What to expect if we don’t pass the PRIME Act?
The meat monopoly keeps growing.
We keep losing small, independent American farms and ranches leading to food insecurity for millions of Americans.
The black market for meat continues to undermine hardworking American farms and ranches while scamming Americans into paying too much for questionable quality meat.
The federal government centralizes control on our food supply putting American communities at risk.
Quality, safe meat becomes a scarcity for only a few elites as the noose tightens around the farmers’ and ranchers’ necks.
Congressman Massie urges us to make 3 calls.
Will you make those calls this week?
If you:
Have a hard time finding good meats
Buy from a food club
Believe in humanely treated animals
Believe in food security and FOOD FREEDOM
then it is essential that you make these 3 short calls!
September 5th through the 8th, 2023 (this week) are the days to take action. Come along with thousands of other Americans who are committed to food freedom and giving our farmers, ranchers and small, local butchers the support they need to keep producing and processing the food that feeds America.
“Let American farmers do what they do best: feed their neighbors.”

About Raw Milk Mama: I believe in the freedom to feed our families how we see fit. I also see the direction that our country is going--no one wants to live in a world where food scarcity is a constant reality. It's time to take back our food systems so they serve us, not monopolistic corporations.
