Nope, it’s not just you.
Our whole food system is set up for the average person to fail.
Let me explain….
Many years ago, when I was pregnant with my 2nd child–I’d been sourcing from local farms only sporadically at that point–I looked around me and had a realization:
I could go to about 50 places within 5 miles of my home and purchase all I wanted of
Fast food
Candy
Liquor
Cigarettes
Soda pop
I could drink myself to black out (yes even pregnant, I could legally do this), or smoke and eat candy all through my pregnancy and give my 1 year old soda and lollipops all day long.
I could feed her 3 meals a day on fast food if I wanted to.
All of this was totally legal.
Not just legal. Encouraged.
In fact, in many cases, the only thing available for some families.
Our food system is literally set up for the average person to fail.
Keep you sick and tired.
Make you fail at keeping a budget.
Designed to keep you out of your own kitchen.
A system based on selling you packaged food and creating exorbitant waste.
Make you fail at understanding our food and the role it plays in our lives and ecosystems.
Looking at it this way, it’s no surprise that we have such high levels of chronic illness in our country.
It’s a toxic food system designed to create disease and illness
In us
The animals
Our ecosystems
The monetary system
So no, it’s not you. It’s not your “fault” that the systems are the way they are today.
Many people worked hard to bring about this horrible and unhealthy system.
These same people, institutions, and corrupt corporations continue to lie to us to manipulate us into buying certain things and perpetuate an unhealthy system.
In other words, they created and now sustain the world we are in today.
While it’s not your fault, changing this system IS your responsibility.
There’s so much information out there. It’s hard to sort through it all, I know.
🤔How do the labeling laws keep us all sick?
🤔Why is sugar everywhere if it’s so bad for us?
🤔When did fake food start and why is it prevalent today?
🤔What can we do to take our power back?
But I believe we CAN and MUST reclaim our food systems to see a future we want for our children and grandchildren.
Where do we start?
We start small. We start wherever we are right now with what we have. We start with a conversation, or a seed, or learning to cook.
We start with sharing a piece of information–lovingly–so that others can make a more informed choice. Together, our aggregate choices make the world we live in.
Who’s with me?
Let’s reclaim our food systems!
About Raw Milk Mama: I believe in the freedom to feed our families how we see fit. I also see the direction that our country is going--no one wants to live in a world where food scarcity is a constant reality. It's time to take back our food systems so they serve us, not monopolistic corporations.
I couldn't agree with you more. Amen.
"These same people, institutions, and corrupt corporations continue to lie to us to manipulate us into buying certain things and perpetuate an unhealthy system.”
And here’s a good example of this from what is proudly described as “the Silicon Valley of Food”:
