Maryland’s Raw Milk Paradox
(Full podcast below)
In Maryland, unlike the majority of states, it is still illegal to sell raw milk for human consumption.
Over the years, the big reason provided for this is that raw milk is “too dangerous” and the only way to stem the flow is to keep it illegal for human consumption.
Yet Maryland officials ignore the millions of gallons of black market raw milk pouring into Maryland from Pennsylvania, Virginia, and other states.
The question isn’t whether or not Americans, in this case Marylanders, will drink raw milk.
We do and we will continue to.
The only question is whether or not the milk will come from local, honest farmers adhering to ethical and safety standards, or those who openly brag about their lack of standards and blatantly flaunt the policies in place for clean, safe raw milk production.
Food security for Marylanders cannot come from mega 1800+ cow farms in CA. Just as it cannot come from the murky business practices and aggregation of Amish black market “farms” in PA.
But it CAN come from clean, safe, and honest dairy farmers in Maryland who serve their communities.
How can ordinary Americans step up and be part of a solution even without access to land or animals?
Not all raw is the same. Know the details. Know your farmer.
We cover a range of topics in this interview that will be of interest to anyone exploring the ideas of raw milk and what it means to have access to this life-giving food.
Topics include:
The truth about “lactose intolerance.”
The Maryland raw milk paradox.
What are the real benefits of A2/A2 milk?
Are cleanliness standards important in raw milk?
What is a “conventional” dairy?
Why is milk measured by the hundredweight?
How can dairy farms support their surrounding communities?
The important relationship between farmers and those who depend on them.
And much more….
If you’re curious about raw milk, or the history of raw milk in America, or what “lactose intolerance” actually means (and how it’s probably NOT what you think), or about the (marketing) battle around A2/A2 milk, then take a listen.
We cover a lot of ground in this discussion and lay the foundation for your further exploration.
