in the 70's i went to USA and visited bud basolos? buffalo farm where he crosses the buff and a cow. i think he had the largest preservation of buffs in usa at the time. always wondered what eventuated there?

A beautiful animal never forgotten after encountering one.

Thank You for the reminder.

Yes, the American Bison is an incredible animal. They have gifted us the fertile soils of the great plains. I did not cover the ecosystem of the American Bison in this article, however, I will come back to it. It is incredible!

Thank you Jeanette,

I think it is imperative that we realize how precarious our current food system is. May we all have the wisdom and courage to make the necessary changes. 🙏

supporting ranchers and farmers means doing something about the power of the monopolies. Lina Khan and the Biden FTC have been good on this front so far but it is an uphill battle. Matt Stoller had an excellent piece on this in October 2021 about Ranchers and Cattle prices. www.thebignewsletter.com/p/economists-to-cattle-ranchers-stop?r=huqaw&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Hi Rick,

"supporting ranchers and farmers means doing something about the power of the monopolies"

Yes! I couldn't agree more.

We have the POWER and the responsibility to take action every day with our purchasing choices even as we wait on government to do or not do something that matters.

I believe in the adage that we get more of what we support. Want more small farms? Support them. Want more direct transactions? Create them.

It matters. It is not the only thing that matters, but these small actions can build up to huge impacts. Thank you for supporting small farmers and ranchers!

Liz, thanks for posting the link to the Prime Act. I'd like to suggest to Massie that it also apply to the culture and processing of Siluriformes. This would put my catfish operation back into commercial production.

I am lucky enough to have a local slaughterhouse down the road and they have a herd of grass-fed Angus. Even closer to me, in Midcoast Maine, is an organic dairy farm with an honor system market. I can get fresh, raw milk at two in the morning if need be!
