We are partners in a community of cows that share their milk with us if their young do not need it all. They are such generous animals and we are so appreciative of their gifts to us. Thank you dear Raw Milk Mama.
Sharonmo, cow shares are wonderful! They are examples of how this can all work on a small scale, locally. And yes, cows are so generous. They are often described as the foster mothers of humanity. What a beautiful and fitting title for them.
I believe that as we change our neighbor's perspective on local, short food supply chains, that the laws and regs will fall into place. I'm not saying it will be easy, quite the contrary, but once we have reached a tipping point the demand will be so huge that communities will make it happen.
And, without the mindset change first, the laws will swing back and forth like reeds in the wind.
The question I keep asking is "what worldly event will it take for the majority of our community members to realize how VITAL a local, short food supply chain is?"
I don't know the answer to that. It's a puzzle that eludes me at the moment.
Excellent article and subject matter. We joined a milkshare program at a farmstead a few miles down the road, using half gallon Mason jars that we return at each week's pick-up of raw milk. Wouldn't do it any other way. Love your content, Raw Milk Mama, keep it going!
That is a great model. I love that you get to use your own jars each week. That is building some real food security, right there. Milk is one of the most amazing foods humans can have access to.
No kidding, especially raw milk. Half gallon a week for us two yields a quart of yogurt, farmers cheese, and whey. And then fermenting vegetables from the garden with the whey. So many more doors opened when we joined the herdshare!
Yes! I have three kittens who will be great hunters also. That is one of my loves, raising wild kittens who are amazing and have surprised me with how different they are from domesticated cats. I feel so blessed and loved by the animals and by the Universe as I grow and learn from the elemental kittens gdom. 😸 Happy New Beginnings

Sounds like the kind of future I'd like to see... We'll also need to change municipal laws barring raw-milk sales and the keeping of animals.
Indeed, Lisa!
